What Can I Do With An Adjuster License in Alabama?

Why do you want an adjuster license? What do insurance claims adjusters actually do? A claims adjuster is an insurance professional who reviews insurance claims for an insurance company and determines just how much the company is liable to pay out. They interview claimants, examine any claimed property damage, and may talk to police or review records or pictures related to the claiming incident.

Alabama Adjuster License Requirements

• 18 years of age or older
  
• Be a bona fide resident of Alabama
  
• Complete the required Alabama Adjuster Pre-licensing Course:
  • Alabama Property & Casualty, Workers' Compensation and Crop - 40 hours
    
  • Alabama Property & Casualty - 20 hours
    
  • Alabama Workers' Compensation - 20 hours
    
  • Alabama Crop - 20 hours
• Complete the AL Adjuster Exam and submit your fingerprints
  
• Complete the Alabama Insurance Adjuster License application and submit with applicable fees
  
• Resident adjusters are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years. The 24 hours must include at least 3 hours of Ethics.

Is There An Alabama Insurance Adjuster Exam?

Yes. To earn your AL adjuster license, you must complete the Alabama pre-licensing course, then pass the state exam. That said, our course makes this process easy by including your state exam in the online program! There is no additional testing required once you finish our course!

If you do not take our course you will have to go to a testing center to complete your state test. You will be asked to present a valid photo ID and an original certificate of completion from an approved pre-licensing provider when you arrive to take your examination. If you have not received the original certificate, you may present a copy only if the notary stamp and signatures are legible by proctor.

The exam is given at University of Alabama locations in Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Gadsden. You can also register to take the exam online. Depending on which adjuster licensing exam you take, you will have between 100-150 questions and 120-180 minutes to complete the test.

NOTES:

• Alabama grants reciprocal licenses to adjusters who are licensed in their home state, except CA, HI, and NY. Candidates from these states applying for a Non-Resident Independent Adjuster license must take the appropriate prelicensing course and pass the Alabama exam.
• Alabama will accept a Designated Home State (DHS) license for adjusters whose home state does not license.
