About This Course:
There is a statistically significant impact of workplace injury on opioid overdose morbidity. Workplace injuries increase the hazard of opioid-related morbidity for both medical-only injured workers as well as lost time injured workers.

Employers must have policies and procedures in place to protect both the company's best interest as well as worker well-being. The Employer must communicate policies, procedures, and company values. The Employer must recognize and establish procedures to attempt to reduce workplace injury or the severity of workplace injury. The Employer should increase efforts to ensure opioid prescriptions for injured workers are limited to situations where benefits are likely to outweigh risks that may help to reduce opioid dependence, opioid abuse, illicit opioid use, overdose, and subsequent mortality.

Many employers have locations in multiple states. Each state has its own approach for employers when dealing with workers' compensation claims filed by their employees. Some states have very unique handling of medical aspects of a workers' compensation claim.

This presentation will help the persons responsible for providing workers' compensation benefits follow documented and detailed procedures when work injuries occur and medical treatment is required, including opioids. While every claim should be viewed on a case-by-case basis, Employer's must apply a methodical process throughout various states Workers' Compensation Statutes to determine appropriate treatment, including opioid prescriptions, for injured workers.

This presentation will assist risk management and claims professionals with understanding how to analyze, evaluate, and ultimately attempt to resolve claims in a manner that reduces wage loss and medical exposure for employers in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible. What You'll Learn:
