Colorado Insurance Adjuster License

Colorado Insurance Adjuster Licensing Requirements

Colorado Insurance Adjuster LicenseIn Colorado, there are two types of insurance adjuster licenses: Public and Indepent. Public adjusters work on behalf of the policyholders only. Independent adjusters work for insurance companies and represent the financial interests of those companies.

Since Colorado does not license independent adjusters, we recommend getting a non-resident Designated Home State (DHS) License from either Florida or Texas.

Why Do I Need An Adjuster License In Colorado?

By getting a DHS adjuster license from Texas or Florida you will be able to apply for reciprocal licenses in other states you may work in. In order to get a reciprocal license in other states you must be licensed in your home state or have a DHS license.

Why is this so appealing? Because insurance claims adjusting can be both rewarding and lucrative work. You are invaluable to any insurance company, so your chances of getting hired are strong. If you are good at your job, financial success should quickly follow.

As a Colorado insurance claims adjuster, you are the one going to the accident site, the home collapse, the hospital or wherever an incident has occurred that has led to a claim. You are always where the action is, and the company relies on you to assess the situation and make a fair judgment on how much the company is liable for.

What Sort Of Topics Are On The Insurance Adjuster Exam?

Any state that requires an exam to obtain an insurance adjuster license will likely have questions on all lines of insurance. This is because if you are hired as an insurance claims adjuster, you will probably not get to pick and choose which claims to work on. You need to be able to investigate whatever claim the company is facing.

For that reason, expect your insurance adjuster license exam to include topics ranging as far and wide as:
  • Property and Casualty Insurance Basics
  • Adjusting Losses
  • Dwelling and Homeowners Policies
  • Auto Insurance
  • Commercial Package Policies
  • Businessowners Policy
  • Workers' Compensation
