Examples Of Reasonable Accommodations

2/27/2026

A Reasonable Accommodation request is a change or adjustment to a job or work environment that enables a qualified person with a disability to perform essential job functions, enjoy equal employment opportunities, or participate in the job application process.  Both parties discuss possible solutions, such as:
  • Modified work schedules
  • Assistive technology
  • Reassignment to a vacant position
  • Modified duties
  • Telework
It is important to understand that while employers must genuinely engage in the process, employers are not obligated to provide the employee's preferred accommodation as long as the alternative is effective. Note: This is an excerpt from our ADA Training & Certification Program. For more information on navigating these requirements, see our ADA compliance training.
