Property And Casualty Prelicense Requirements For Maryland Insurance Agents

Maryland has a prelicensing requirement for those wishing to take the property and casualty licensing exam. For the licensing exam for property insurance, you will need 20 hours of prelicensing education. If you want to take the casualty insurance exam, you need 20 hours of relevant prelicensing education. For the combined lines property and casualty license, you need 40 total hours of prelicensing education.

Whatever prelicensing education you pursue, you must have your study certified by passing an approved certification exam with a score of 70 percent or higher.

Maryland Property And Casualty Exam Requirements

When you get your certificate of completion, you will have six months to schedule and pass your P&C licensing exam. You can schedule yours quickly by visiting PSI Exams online. Expect to pay a $70 examination fee.

Arrive for your exam with your certificate of completion and two forms of government-issued I.D., at least one of which must have your picture.

The combined lines Maryland property and casualty insurance examination consists of 120 total multiple-choice questions. You have 3.5 hours to complete the exam. Again, you will need a score of 70 percent or greater to pass.

If your score report indicates a pass upon completion, the next step is to apply for your license with the National Insurance Producer Registry for your license. There will be a $54 licensing fee.
