About The North Carolina Insurance Adjuster Exam

Once you have studied, submit your application with the required fee. Be sure to bring your candidate I.D. and a valid government-issued photo I.D. with you when you arrive at the scheduled time and location of your test.

You can apply for the Independent Adjuster license or the Company/Independent Firm Adjuster license. Whichever you choose, you will have two hours and fifteen minutes to complete the 100-question test.

For each test, a score of 70 or better indicates a passing grade. Once you pass the exam and submit to a background check, your license application will be reviewed and you will receive an email with further instructions within 48-72 hours.

Licensing Info For How To Become An North Carolina Adjuster

Below is information on the licensing requirements for becoming an North Carolina Insurance Adjuster, its insurance department, and examination scheduling facilities.

North Carolina Adjuster License Requirements:
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Pass the NC state exam administered by Pearson VUE Testing Centers
  • Complete the North Carolina Insurance Adjuster License application and submit with applicable fees
  • Submit fingerprints and undergo basic background check
  • 24 Hours of CE (including 3 ethics and 3 flood credits) are required every two years. Non-residents need only to meet the CE requirements in their home state.
Non-Resident North Carolina Insurance Adjuster License

Non-resident applicants for a NC Adjuster License must submit an application. Please visit the National Insurance Producer Registry for more information on North Carolina non-resident licensing.

Note: North Carolina grants reciprocal licenses to adjusters who are licensed in their home state. North Carolina will also accept a Designated Home State (DHS) license from an adjuster whose home state does not license.
