How To Become A Tennessee Property And Casualty Insurance Agent

Tennessee Pre-License Requirements For P&C Agents

You must take a pre-licensing course before you can take the Tennessee property and casualty insurance licensing exam. State-approved pre-licensing courses are available through Agent Broker Training Center. Find the course you need and click the appropriate link below.

To satisfy the pre-licensing requirements, you will have to take a pre-licensing test after completing the course and receive a passing grade of 70 percent or higher.

Tennessee Property And Casualty Exam Requirements

Once you have completed the required coursework and passed your pre-licensing test, you can contact PearsonVUE to schedule your exam. If you prefer, you can call them at 1-800-274-4957 to schedule your test. There is an associated fee of $54.

You will need to bring three items with you to the test:
  • A certificate of pre-licensing completion, which you should receive immediately upon passing your pre-licensing exam
  • A photo I.D.
  • A second form of valid, government-issued I.D.
The property and casualty exams are each 82 questions long with a time limit of an hour and forty-five minutes. The test is multiple-choice and you will find out if you passed or failed as soon as the test is over. Keep in mind that your results may not show up on the Tennessee Department of Insurance website for up to three days. When your results do appear, you can apply for your property and casualty insurance license through NIPR.
