Specific Oregon Insurance Requirements

  • Oregon Life Insurance License: In addition to examination requirements, you must complete 20 hours of life insurance Prelicense Education (PLE)
  • Oregon Health Insurance License: In addition to examination requirements, you must complete 20 hours of health insurance Prelicense Education (PLE)
  • Oregon Life, Accident & Health Insurance License: In addition to examination requirements, for a combined life, accident and health insurance license, applicants must complete 40 hours of relevant PLE
  • Oregon Property Insurance License: In addition to examination requirements, property insurance license applicants must complete 20 hours of property insurance PLE
  • Oregon Casualty Insurance License: In addition to examination requirements, casualty insurance license applicants must complete 20 hours of casualty insurance PLE
  • Oregon Property and Casualty Insurance: For a combined property & casualty insurance license in Oregon, you must complete 40 hours of property and casualty PLE in addition to examination requirements
  • Oregon Personal Lines Insurance: For personal lines insurance licensure in Oregon, you must complete 20 hours of personal lines PLE and pass examination requirements
  • PLE Completion Requirements: You will need a certificate of course completion for your chosen line of authority before you can sit for the state exam. To receive this certificate, you must have on record that you have spent the required number of hours in the prelicensing course. Furthermore, you must have read each lesson and passed the end-of-chapter quiz by obtaining a score of at least 70 percent correct answers. You must then pass the final PLE exam with at least 70 percent correct answers. If you are able to meet these requirements, you can print out a certificate of completion you will need to present for your state licensing exam
  • Oregon Annuity Training: If you are an Oregon insurance producer and intend to sell annuity products, you will need to undergo a one-time four-hour state-mandated training course
  • Oregon Long-Term Care Training: If you are an Oregon insurance producer and you intend to sell long-term care products, you are required by the state to complete an eight-hour one-time training course and four hours of ongoing training every two-year license period following completion of the initial one-time training
  • Oregon Non-Resident Insurance License Information: If you are a licensed resident in good standing in your home state, you may acquire an Oregon insurance producer license as a non-resident providing you hold an equivalent license to the line of authority you are seeking licensure for in Oregon. You must apply for your license transfer within 90 days of establishing residency in Oregon
Oregon Licensure Examination Procedure

Once completing the PLE requirements, find your local test center and availability and sign up to sit for the exam. Be prepared to show two forms of identification and your PLE certificate of course completion. The passing score for each licensing exam is 70 percent, and all exams are in multiple-choice format. You will be fingerprinted at the testing center.
